Spinach
Spinach has tender leaves with a mild, earthy, slightly sweet flavour and delicate texture. Use it when you want a versatile leafy green that is great for both fresh and cooked dishes.
Why you’ll love it
- Freshness: Harvested, cut, and packed when you place an order
- Hyperlocal: Grown in Scarborough for pickup or local delivery
- Clean: Hydroponic, soil-free, and grown in a controlled indoor system
- Flavour: Mild, sweet, and earthy, flavour with bitter undertones
- Colour: Deep, rich green oval leaves with a slightly paler underneath
- Best for: Salads, smoothies, sandwiches, omelettes, soups, pasta, curries, and sautés
Best ways to use Spinach
Enjoy it fresh in salads, sandwiches, wraps, smoothies, or grain bowls for a mild flavour and tender texture.
Stir it into soups, pasta, curries, or omelettes near the end of cooking so the leaves wilt gently.
Sauté quickly with olive oil and garlic, or add it to quiches, lasagna, and other baked dishes.
Spinach pairs especially well with garlic, onions, mushrooms, tomatoes, lemon, olive oil, feta, Parmesan, ricotta, eggs, chicken, salmon, chickpeas, white beans, walnuts, strawberries, apples, quinoa, and pasta.
Use Spinach fresh or add it near the end of cooking to preserve its colour, texture, and flavour.
Why hydroponic Spinach
Hydroponic growing uses a water-based nutrient system instead of soil. This helps keep the crop clean, controlled, and close to the community.
Since we grow locally in Scarborough, travel time from harvest to pickup or local delivery is reduced.
Indoor hydroponic growing can also support careful water use because water and nutrients are managed in a controlled system.
For customers, that means fresh local greens grown with care, consistency, and less dependence on long-distance supply chains.
Freshness Tip
- Rinse only before use
- Keep the leaves as dry as possible during storage, as excess moisture can shorten freshness
- If condensation develops inside the package, gently pat the leaves dry with a clean paper towl
- If the leaves begin to soften, soak them in very cold, clean water for 2 to 5 minutes, then drain and dry thoroughly before serving
- Use within 5 to 7 days for the best flavour and texture
