Making food support accessible to everyone

Impact

More than 100,000 meals served each year.

How We Got Started

5N2 was founded by Seema David in 2013. The charity provides fresh, nutritious, and culturally appropriate food to communities across the Greater Toronto Area, especially Scarborough.

Seema immigrated to Canada in 2007. After seeing widespread homelessness and food insecurity, she felt inspired to take action.

5N2 began with a small team of volunteers working from a church kitchen. As demand grew, the organization moved into a commercial kitchen supported by community donations.

During the pandemic, 5N2 changed to a delivery model so meals and grocery items could continue reaching people in need, even with fewer volunteers.

When 5N2 lost its kitchen lease, Seema worked tirelessly to find a new location so the charity could continue its essential work.

As inflation and the cost of living increased, the need for food support also grew. 5N2 expanded its Community Meal Program to serve more people.

Today, 5N2 distributes over 5,000 free meal portions and grocery support packages each week. Through its Scarborough kitchen and community partners, the organization helps thousands of individuals and families across the region.

5N2’s mission is to help ensure that no one in the community goes hungry. In Scarborough, 1 in 8 families faces food insecurity. Many families must make difficult choices between food and other basic needs.

Seema’s dedication shows how community-led action can address urgent social challenges. Her work has also inspired many people to volunteer their time, skills, and compassion.
