Why Become a 5N2 Donor?
- 5N2 provides over 4200 free, healthy meals and grocery support, each week, to those who are fighting food insecurity in our neighborhoods and communities.
- One in every ten households face food insecurity in Scarborough and across the GTA; 5N2 creates equitable access to food in marginalized communities.
- 2.53 million people visited food banks in 2023. This represents a 51% increase in use as compared to 2023.
- 55% of the people reported they missed a meal to pay for something else like rent.
- 31% went an entire day without eating
5N2 Kitchens: provides members of low-income, high-risk housing communities, shelters and soup kitchens with healthy, nutritious meals of culturally relevant foods. All the meals that are planned and created in the kitchens are from donations of rescued food, and 5N2 Farms, to make fresh, healthy, balanced meals.

“Food rescue, also called food recovery, food salvage or surplus food redistribution, is the practice of gleaning edible food that would otherwise go to waste from places such as farms, produce markets, grocery stores, restaurants, or dining facilities and distributing it to local emergency food programs.” – Wikipedia
5N2 Pantry Program: relieves financial pressure on members of the community who are on fixed incomes. One of the only flexible expenses they have is their food budget. Each week, through the 5N2 Pantry Program, eligible candidates receive grocery hampers of canned food, fruits, vegetables, meats, whole grains, dairy products and sweets.
5N2 Farms: are a social enterprise started in October 2023 to create a method of sustainability to support 5N2’s free meal and free pantry programs. These farms, which are located onsite at 5N2, were set up with dual vision: to market and generate revenue to support the free food services of the charity and to provide leafy greens to the community.
5N2 is a registered charity and tax receipts will be provided for all donations above $20.
